Certificate IV in Hairdressing is the standard qualification for the hairdressing industry.

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior hairdressers who develop complex technical skills and knowledge working as part of or coordinating a salon team.

It includes senior hairdressers who work as technical advisers with a hairdressing products company; or independently as a freelance session stylist.

Functions at this level include the self-directed application of a broad range of knowledge and skills and the provision of technical leadership, training and support to colleagues.

A hairdresser at this level may provide specialist services, including haircutting, hair design, hair colouring, complex colour correction, hair extensions, chemical reformation, and makeup application.

All course units in the Certificate IV in Hairdressing are assessed in a workplace environment or in our on-campus salons, which are open to the public.

Certificate IV in Hairdressing Prerequisite

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who have:

  1. Achieved a Certificate III in Hairdressing (or equivalent)
  2. At least one year post qualification full time employment experience as a hairdresser in a salon environment where they have applied the skills and knowledge covered in the above (or equivalent) qualification

The Certificate IV in Hairdressing provides the skill and knowledge to competently work as a hairdresser, with advanced techniques in:

  1. Cutting
  2. Styling
  3. Colouring

Study, Assessment Methods and Facilities

This course is delivered face-to-face, through a combination of tutorials and hairdressing lab workshops. You will be assessed through written tests, hairdressing-based tasks, and assignments Equipment includes: Fully Equipped Hairdressing Salons, Training Salon, Printed and on line Resources.
