Entry Requirements for Vocational Education and Training Courses

Academia has processes to assess whether a prospective student's qualifications, experience and English Language proficiency are appropriate for the course in which enrolment is sought.

General requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age

NOTE: This requirement applies from 6th August 2025 in accordance with Ministerial Instrument 2025.

English language evidence exemptions

  1. With English proficiency of Advanced level
  2. Passing Academia International’s Placement test. Pass with an average of 85% (with a minimum of 85% for speaking)
  3. With Senior Secondary Certificate of Education completed in Australia
  4. With Certificate IV or higher completed in Australia
  5. Completing tertiary studies in the medium of English
  6. Who is a citizen of, and holds a valid passport of following countries; Canada; New Zealand; the Republic of Ireland; the United Kingdom; and the United States of America and/or;
  7. Who has completed a minimum of 5 years so study in English in one or more of the following countries; ; Australia, Canada; South Africa, New Zealand; the Republic of Ireland; the United Kingdom; and the United States of America

*If the English Language requirements cannot be satisfied, a student can still enrol into our Vocational programs after successfully completing one or more of the English Language courses offered by Academia

English School Overview

Educational background / prior work experience
(One of the following criteria only):

  1. Year 11 or above (Australia) or equivalent international qualification with numeracy unit/subject listed in statement or result OR
  2. Mature aged entry, with any one or both of the following applies:
    1. Demonstrating relevant work experience in the vocation chosen to study AND/OR
    2. Application into a package of courses which cover the pre-requisite knowledge and skills (e.g Certificate III, Certificate IV and Diploma)

Entry Requirements for English Language Courses

Academia has processes to assess whether a prospective student's English Language proficiency is appropriate for the course in which enrolment is sought.

General requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age; and Literacy in native language

Advanced GE6
  1. IELTS 5.5 or equivalent test result recognised by DHA;or
  2. An average score of 75% to 84% on Academia International's Placement Test; or
  3. Successful completion of Upper Intermediate (GE5) at Academia International.

Upper Intermediate GE5
  1. IELTS 5 or equivalent test result recognised by DHA; or
  2. An average score of 65% to 74% on Academia International's Placement Test.
