Studying childcare online: how does it work?
A lot of people assume that studying childcare online is a simple matter of watching a recorded lecture and receiving an email with a worksheet on it.
And unfortunately, that’s how a lot of other institutions do it.
Of course, there are a couple of major problems with this, namely, the fact that it just isn’t very good at preparing you to work in childcare! It’s far too easy to fall behind and feel like you’re not getting the attention you deserve.
Our online childcare courses in Melbourne are a little bit different…
Introducing our online learning system
If you ask us, a video recording and emailed worksheet just won’t cut it if you’re going to succeed in childcare.
It just doesn’t offer the same experience, and you may come out the other end unprepared for the rigours of childcare.
That’s why our online learning system is designed to replicate a physical classroom as much as possible.
You won’t be limited to watching a recording – instead, our online childcare courses combine video conferencing with virtual whiteboards that allow us to bring the classroom experience to you, via your computer!
That isn’t the only extra step we’ve taken – we also allow you and your fellow students to easily branch off and start your own private video chats and instant messaging to collaborate and ask questions.
Keep on learning after-hours
Our online system is enhanced by our Learning Management System (LMS) which has been operating since 2015.
So you missed your scheduled class – not to worry, each of our online childcare courses is recorded for playback later or anytime when you’re free.
Not only does it give you an extra level of flexibility, but it also lets you review an aspect you may not have fully understood!
Of course, that isn’t the only thing our LMS lets you do – you can also use it to:
- Get in touch with your instructors and fellow students after-hours if you need guidance with an assignment or a particularly difficult topic
- Access additional childcare learning resources
- View assignment rubrics and grading schemes
Study childcare online in Melbourne for free
Our online childcare courses are still fully accredited and certified, just like any other childcare course in Melbourne.
And like other childcare courses in Melbourne, they’re all eligible for Skills First funding, allowing eligible students to study for free!
Whether you enrol in the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, you’ll be able to study or retrain for FREE!
But what about work placement and workshops?
Childcare is a hands-on role – as such, your childcare course in Melbourne needs to take this into consideration and include provisions for practical learning.
As such, there’s no way around it – while most of your childcare course can be completed online, there are certain parts of your course that will need you to attend in person.
Our childcare courses in Melbourne feature a heavy emphasis on practical learning:
- A range of practical workshops
- Mandatory placement at a real childcare facility
For the time being, all of our practical workshops have been postponed to later in the year, as have the work placement components of each of our childcare courses in Melbourne.
As the situation progresses, we have to be flexible – and we’ll keep you updated on any changes!
