How to determine the Assessment Level / Evidence Level of an Australian Educational Provider
The lower the Assessment or Evidence Level of the Educational Provider the lower the risk of your visa application being rejected.
Although there is no comprehensive list of all Australian educational institutions and their Assessment/Evidence levels due to the fact that the levels are subject to change every six months. There is a quick and easy way to independently determine the Assessment and Evidence Level of an Australian Educational Provider.
All you have to do is visit the following website:

The Australian Department of Home Affairs provides a free “Document Checklist Tool” to help determine the Assessment and Evidence Level of all Australian Educational Providers.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to find the Assessment and Evidence Level of an Australian Educational Provider.
- Select your country of citizenship or the country of your passport.
For this example, we’ll use Afghanistan, as applicants from this country due to historic Visa Risk are currently deemed at Assessment Level / Evidence Level 3.
- Type in the name of your preferred educational provider and select it from the drop-down menu. Please note that the CRICOS code will then be automatically assigned, so there is no need to click anything in that section.
Here we have selected Academia International & Academia Australia from the list, and the CRICOS code 02634E has been automatically allocated.
- Then in the multiple-choice section there are options for students applying for a visa through a specialised program. As this option does not refer to the majority of students, we will keep the selection of the last option, “none of the above”.
- Click ‘Display Evidence’ and scroll down.
The next section determines the Evidence/Assessment Level of the educational provider.
After following this process using Academia as the example, you will see that there are NO additional requirements between the headings of Health Insurance and Genuine Student Requirement.
Institutions not classified as Assessment/Evidence Level 1 will have additional requirements displayed between the headings of Health Insurance and Genuine Student Requirement.
Shown in the image below, if a student applying from Afghanistan (or an Assessment Level 3 / Evidence Level 3 country) chooses an institution NOT categorised as Assessment and Evidence Level 1, they will be required to provide evidence of Financial Capacity and English Language Ability.
An Educational Providers Assessment and Evidence Level is identified by whether or not a student will need to provide evidence of Financial Capacity and English Language Ability.
This simple process takes less than a minute and shows you the unbiased ranking of any Australian Educational provider. In the case of Academia, we can see that they are classified as an Assessment and Evidence Level 1 institution, as they do not hold any additional evidence requirements.
Determining the Assessment and Evidence Level of your educational provider is a straightforward process. This quick and easy search is recommended for all international students looking to determine the Visa Risk level of Australian Educational Institutions.
It is important to note that for some nationalities or individual cases the Department of Home Affairs Student Visa Assessor has the right to ask for financials or English capability on a case by case basis.
