How do Academia’s online childcare courses work?

You’d be surprised at what you can study online nowadays!

Online learning has seen a huge uptick in adoption – it was already on an upwards trajectory, but then COVID-19 came in and kicked that growth into high gear.

Of course, one of the issues with online learning is that a lot of institutions have been forced to adopt it without being able to work out the kinks first. As a result, they simply haven’t been able to offer the same level of education as they normally would!

This doesn’t just impact your results – it can also have major consequences for others.

Take childcare workers and early childhood educators. The reason there’s such high standards for childcare courses in Melbourne is because your work is going to have a tangible impact on children’s lives.

You’re laying the foundation for their adult lives – compromising your education can impact their opportunities!

Are you hesitant about starting an online childcare course? Worried that it won’t be up to the same level?

No need to be wary, thanks to our online learning system! The system is designed to ensure you get the same quality education as an in-person childcare course.

Here’s what you’ll experience when you study childcare online with Academia…

How do our online childcare courses work?

For a lot of institutions, online learning essentially boils down to:

  • Emailed worksheets
  • A once-a-week recorded lecture
  • Online quizzes

There’s no classroom experience, few opportunities to interact with the content and even fewer to get in touch with instructors for personalised advice and support.

This is something that our Online Learning System is designed to specifically avoid!

We’ve designed our system so that you can enjoy an experience as close as possible to attending in-person classes.

All of our online TAFE equivalent courses use this system, giving you greater convenience and keeping you safe.

We have been using this online learning system since 2015 – it’s not something we haphazardly scrambled to organise when COVID hit – so we’ve got ample experience providing online TAFE/vocational courses to the highest standard!

Here’s how it works:

  1. On our Academia website, you can go to the ‘current students’ tab to access our Learning Management System (LMS)
  2. Once you’re enrolled in our online childcare course, you can immediately log in and find our childcare course to enter the online classroom
  3. After you join the online class for our childcare course, you can automatically join with your video and audio
  4. Attend your online childcare classes and enjoy online features such as notes and video sharing
  5. Access various learning materials, course outline, available resources, and other supplemental resources available, all related to your online childcare courses

If you’re interested in taking one of our childcare courses in Melbourne remotely, here’s what you can expect courtesy of our unique system…

Interactivity

A lot of people learn best by interacting.

Maybe they get the most mileage out of being able to ask questions of their instructor as they go through the course content, or perhaps they like it when the instructor is able to focus on specific areas they’re struggling with today.

Either way, this requires a certain level of interactivity you won’t get from a pre-recorded class.

Real-time learning allows instructors to address any student concerns or questions, including:

  • Diving deeper into specific examples
  • Focusing on trouble areas
  • Revisiting certain concepts with more depth

Additionally, we also use interactive whiteboards to allow you to engage directly with the course material as well as your instructor!

Small class sizes

Unlike a lot of other institutions, you’ll be there alongside other students, all learning the same content.

Another thing that sets us apart? How small our online classes are!

Many other institutions will throw dozens of students into a Zoom call and call it a day (and that’s if they aren’t using pre-recorded lectures). How is one instructor supposed to help that many students?

We make it our mission to maintain small class sizes with balanced instructor-student ratios.

We find that this allows you to enjoy more one-on-one attention, and ask your instructor for support if you need it.

Private chats and messaging that facilitate group work

Sometimes, you might need to split into groups to complete a task. Other times, you might want to ask a student for their insight, opinion, or assistance.

Our online classes allow you to break off into private chats and group messaging whenever you want to collaborate with fellow students and complete group work.

Since you’re in an online class with other students, you can do that!

After-hours advice and help

Sometimes, you need an answer, and Google isn’t giving you anything.

Luckily, you can always fall back on your instructors and fellow students!

In addition to class infrastructure, we also have a robust messaging and forum system that allows you to get in touch with instructors and fellow students whenever you need help.

Another option is to revisit class recordings – each of our classes are recorded, allowing you to go back over the day’s content and see anything you might have missed.

How does studying childcare online even work?

A holistic approach towards childcare courses in Melbourne

Completing a childcare course is about much more than learning how to prepare meals or manage tantrums – here at Academia, we believe in teaching childcare holistically.

That means going beyond practical skills and ensuring that you have a well-rounded knowledge base to draw on throughout your career.

We believe that childcare workers and early childhood educators are more than just babysitters – they’re a crucial part of early childhood development, laying the groundwork for the rest of a child’s life.

And because of this, it’s important that you enrol in a course that covers all of these areas.

Our online childcare courses cover things like:

  • Theories of physical and cognitive development
  • Frameworks for early childhood learning
  • Understanding children’s emotions
  • Working with at-risk children

All of this knowledge is essential in creating well-rounded childcare workers and setting children up for life. With this knowledge, you’ll be able to make more informed decisions when dealing with the children in your care.

And luckily, all of these ideas and skills can be taught – these important classes are theoretical, meaning that they can be taught entirely online.

You’ll be able to learn at your own pace and enjoy the same quality education as you study from the comfort of your own home!
