Study aged care online (and for FREE!) with Academia

What’s the biggest hurdle stopping you from taking the next step and retraining?

If you’re like most, the answer is probably “money”.

Let’s face it, a lot of us simply don’t have the cash needed to go back to school – especially if you’ve got to worry about paying the bills.

Luckily for you, the Victorian state government’s Skills First Funding allows you to enrol in a subsidised – or in many cases, free – TAFE course online.

What’s more, many of these courses can be studied online at Academia where students only need to attend the mandatory work-placement and if needed some days for practical tuition!

Introducing Victorian Skills First Funding – and how it can help you study aged care online for free!

Free online TAFE – it’s got to be too good to be true, right?

You never stop learning, as they say. Sometimes however, certain factors can arise which can make it difficult for you to take the leap.

Time is one of them (something our online aged care courses rectify) – another is money.

And that’s where the Victorian state government’s Skills First Funding comes into play.

Essentially, this scheme subsidises a huge range of TAFE courses that are in-demand. And luckily for people who have been thinking of retraining as an aged care worker, aged care is one of the eligible courses!

If you fall into one of the eligible classes of student, you’ll be able to study aged care online and set yourself up for a rewarding career with plentiful job prospects, all without having to pay a cent.

Why choose aged care for your free online TAFE course?

After all, there are so many options open to you whether you’re a recent year 12 graduate or someone who’s looking at making a late career change. Why make the move into aged care?

Simple…

Plentiful job opportunities

Australia’s population is getting older – a trend that’s being repeated across the developed world.

That means a higher number of elderly Australians in need of care. And that means increased demand for aged care services and aged care jobs!

According to the ABS, elderly Australians have gone from 14% of the population in 2011 to 16% of the population in 2016 – that’s a huge change in just five years!

Little wonder that the aged care sector – and all the job opportunities it brings – are projected to grow so much.

Long story short, there’s never been a better time to study aged care online and enter this growing sector!

Rewarding work

Everyone wants to find rewarding work – and there are few career pathways as rewarding as aged care.

Think of it this way: as an aged care worker, you aren’t just looking after the elderly – you’re also helping them maintain a high standard of living.

Many elderly experience decreased mobility. Imagine not being able to go down to the local cafe, do your shopping or travel freely. Imagine how hard that would be on you, and what might happen to your mental wellbeing.

As an aged care worker, you’re helping them maintain their independence and thus have a positive impact on their mental health.

You’ll be having a tangible effect on dozens of people’s lives – little wonder so many of our students report back saying they feel incredibly satisfied and fulfilled!

How do Academia’s online aged care courses work?

A lot of people who’ve started online learning aren’t terribly satisfied with the result – in fact, some students who’ve been forced to take their studies online thanks to COVID-19 are even demanding refunds.

We understand that you’re apprehensive about committing and studying aged care online.

After all, what if you end up with a course that simply doesn’t translate well to online learning? Or if your institution doesn’t put much effort into setting up a robust system?

Luckily, that isn’t something you need to worry about with our online aged care courses in Melbourne.

Academia uses a robust online learning system that aims to replicate the classroom experience as much as possible.

Instead of simply recording lectures and sending you the occasional worksheet, our system:

  • Streams classes in real-time
  • Uses interactive whiteboards to facilitate collaboration
  • Allows you to create private chats with other students

Not only that, but you’ll also be able to keep in contact with other students out-of-hours to fuel further discussion.

*Not entirely online – our aged care courses in Melbourne feature a strong focus on practical experience

Theory and classwork is important – however, it isn’t the end-all, be-all.

Even our online aged care courses include a practical element, with workshops and a mandatory work placement.

Students must attend a mandatory work placement at an aged care centre that is arranged for you by Academia’s workplace assessor. Without this you will not graduate as this is a Department of Education mandatory requirement.

In addition to this, students will need to come in for a minimum requisite face to face practical tuition prior to the work placement to be trained on lifting equipment and other practical mandatory training. We do this to ensure that our students are job ready by the time they undertake their work placement with most being hired post work placement by the aged care centre itself. We want you to be successful.
