English for General Purposes - Beginner to Upper Intermediate
Academia International is a provider of English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS). Running over 5 days in the morning or afternoon, students may join the course on any Monday and may study from 2-50 weeks. Academia International has 5 levels of General English, from Beginning to Upper-Intermediate, which allows students to be placed in an appropriate-level class.
A communicative approach is taken in the General English program, focusing on Speaking and Listening. Writing and reading will focus on tasks that an international student living in Australia might expect to do (filling in forms, applying for a job, reading classified ads). This allows students to use the language right away in Australia.
All students are provided with a course book and supplementary materials will also be provided by the teacher. Academia International has a fully equipped computer learning lab, which students use to supplement their learning experience.

This level is for students with no or little ability to communicate in English. Focus is on high frequency, useful vocabulary that students can actually use in their daily lives. Students learn to communicate with native speakers in a variety of common situations.
GE2 - Elementary
This level is for students who have a basic level of English and are able to communicate in some common situations. Clearly structured tasks encourage fluency and build confidence.
GE3 - Pre-Intermediate
Students at this level are able to communicate in a variety of situations, and can write basic texts. In this course, students will build on these abilities in order to improve their overall fluency. Some possible tasks include writing reports and application forms, making short presentations and reading newspaper articles.
GE4 - Intermediate
Intermediate level students are able to communicate in most situations. In this course students continue improving their overall fluency, while at the same time extending their writing skills. Students learn how to write CVs and covering letters, perform in debates and learn how to interpret texts.
GE5 - Upper-Intermediate
Students in this level are able to communicate in a variety of situations using a variety of tenses and structures. Students will take part in discussions and interviews. Written work will focus on more formal texts, such as letters of complaint.
