VET FEE-HELP is a student income contingent loan scheme for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector that is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) that assists eligible students to pay their VET tuition fees for:

- Full fee paying courses at a Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels or above and;
- Government Subsidised courses at a Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels or above

Interest is not charged on your VET FEE-HELP debt. However there is a loan fee of 20% that applies to full fee-paying students undertaking VET FEE-HELP loans indexed annually by the Tax Office to maintain its real value.
The Australian Government pays the amount of your loan directly to Academia International. You will begin to repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your annual income is above the minimum repayment threshold ($47, 195 in 2011 – 2012).

To access VET FEE-HELP assistance you must be an eligible student. An eligible student (for the purpose of VET FEE-HELP)is who meets the following requirements:

• An Australian citizen; or
• A permanent humanitarian visa holder who will be resident in Australia for the duration of the unit of study in which they are seeking VET FEE-HELP assistance;
• A full fee-paying student enrolled on or before the census date in an eligible unit of study through an approved VET provider and remains enrolled in the unit at the end of the census date; OR
• Undertaking study in a training place which is subsidised by the Victorian State Government and is enrolled on or before the census date in an eligible unit of study through an approved VET provider and remains enrolled in the unit at the end of the census date;
• Meets the tax file number requirements;
• Has completed, signed and submitted a valid Request for VET FEE-HELP assistance form for the unit or the course of which the unit forms a part, on or before the census date; and
• as not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit. In 2012, the FEE-HELP loan limit is $87,706. This amount is indexed each year.

If you are eligible for VET FEE-HELP assistance and would like to obtain a VET FEE-HELP loan, you should obtain a Request for VET FEE-HELP assistance form and VET FEE-HELP information booklet from your Academia International – please contact us at admissions@academia21.com or call (03) 9671 4755.

You must read the Information booklet before completing and signing the form and returning it to the VET FEE HELP admissions officer at Academia International before the commencement of your course for the first unit of study for which you wish to obtain VET FEE-HELP assistance. If you have not submitted a completed Request for VET FEE-HELP assistance form on or before the census date for the unit, you will not be entitled to VET FEE-HELP assistance for that unit and the Australian Government will not pay your tuition fee for that unit.

When completing the form, you must tick all relevant boxes and sign the Declaration. You should contact Academia International if you are unsure how to complete the form.

VET FEE-HELP provides a loan for tuition fees only. VET FEE-HELP does not cover accommodation and general living expenses.

• VET FEE-HELP allows eligible students to have all or part of their tuition fees paid for them by the Australian Government in the form of a loan
• Students repay their VET FEE-HELP debt to the Australian Government through the tax system once their income is above the minimum repayment threshold. Please refer to www.ato.gov.au for further details
• Over their lifetime, students may borrow up to the FEE-HELP limit
• There is a loan fee of 20% for full fee-paying students undertaking VET FEE-HELP loans
• Students receiving Government-subsidised training under the Victorian Training Guarantee are not charged the 20% loan fee
• Eligible students must apply for VET FEE-HELP before the end of their census date
• Before completing the Request for VET FEE-HELP Assistance form a student must read the VET FEE-HELP Information booklet
• There is no age restriction on VET FEE-HELP
• An eligible student must be an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder who is resident in Australia for the duration of study
• VET FEE-HELP means there may be no upfront tuition costs for a student
