Course entry requirements

Course programs offered by Academia International are available to anyone regardless of sex, academic standard, race or disability. As course programs are designed to enable participants to enter and exit their program of study at various points, some modules have a pre-requisite for entry, which are detailed in the module content.

Following are the minimum educational standards and English language entry requirements for applicants:

Entry to Certificate II, III and IV course programs

  1. No ENTER* required

  2. Year 10 (VIC) or equivalent Australian or international qualification as recognised by Academia International

Entry to Diploma course programs

  1. No ENTER* required

  2. Year 12 or (VIC) or equivalent Australian or international qualification as recognised by Academia International.

Study modes and assessment methods

This section provides a description of the study modes and assessment methods used by each of the Schools within Academia International.

 

Hairdressing and Beauty Schools

 

The Hairdressing and Beauty Schools use face-to-face instructor-led training for practical and theoretical units of competency. Skills are demonstrated to students in a functional and operational Hairdressing/Beauty Salon or in a classroom setup with work stations. Students will practise the skills demonstrated until assessed as being competent.

The assessment methods that are typically involved: practical demonstrations/test, written assignments, written exams, role plays or group work.

Resources include textbooks, hand-outs, presentations, hairdressing and beauty therapy facilities, computer lab (with high-speed internet)

 

Hospitality Schools (Cookery, Patisserie, Management)

 

The Hospitality Schools use face-to-face instructor-led training for practical and theoretical units of competency. Skills are demonstrated to students in a functional and operational demonstration kitchen or in the commercial kitchens of Academia International and the Langham Hotel or in a classroom for theory units. Students will practise the skills demonstrated in either the commercial/patisserie kitchens of Academia International or the Lanham Hotel, until assessed as being competent.

The assessment methods that are typically involved: practical demonstrations/test, written assignments, written exams, role plays, excursions or group work.

Resources include textbooks, hand-outs, presentations, kitchen facilities, computer lab (with high-speed internet)

English Language School

 

The English School uses face-to-face lectures for all modules. The assessment methods that are typically involved: written assignments, written exams, role plays, excursions or group work.

Pathway arrangements

Academia International is recognised as a College delivering quality tuition in Vocational Education and Training. This recognition is demonstrated in the pathways we have achieved to date with quality Institutions in the University and Higher Education sectors.  After you complete the Diploma of Hospitality Management THH51202 or the Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management WRH50106 there is an articulation path way into Victoria University's Bachelors of Business (Majoring in Hospitality or Small Business and Entrepreneurship).

Course Fees and Refunds

 

Fees for Local Students can be viewed here.  Fees changes: Academia International will honour the tuition fees quoted in accordance with clause 16 of the Terms and Conditions of enrolment.

Deferment, Suspension and Cancellation of Enrolment

The commencement date of your course (deferment) or the an unscheduled break (suspension also known as a deferment) will only be approved in limited circumstances as per the Deferment, Suspension and Cancellation policy listed in the Student Handbook.

Support Services

Academia International provides a number of Support Services to students.  There are Student Welfare Officers within the college to consult on these and other services.  The Student Welfare Officers will counsel students and may provide free referrals to external parties as necessary where the service is not provided within the college or the student has a support need not offered by the college.
